If a client is married and files separate from their spouse, what are the percentages of social security benefits that are taxable at different levels?
ANSWER
The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:
Do you know if they live together or separately? If they live separately, the same rules apply as if they were single.
If they live together, the base amounts for calculating the social security tax is zero. Thus, all of the social security benefits count as reported income and are taxable at the 85% rate.
