If I sell an item to an out of state buyer, do I have to charge them sales tax from my location of California?

ANSWER

The BIDaWIZ Team's Answer:

No; since your only location is in CA, you do not have to collect sales tax for

any other state. However, you must collect CA sales tax, when you make a sale

to a CA resident. In addition, if you elect to expand your physical presence, to any other

state, at that point, you will have an obligation to collect the sales tax, for that state.

"Physical presence" is a nebulous term, and it is often established merely by using

an independent sales representative, who is based in another state.
